With biomass wood chip heating (240 kW boiler), solar panel arrays (120 kWp), an energy storage system (300 kWh) and EV charging stations for our customers, we have already achieved a lot in the field of renewable energy:

Hotel Vösenhuber has been CARBON NEUTRAL and CLIMATE POSITIVE since March 2023!

Our RENEWABLE ENERGY SOURCES (biomass, solar) replace 100% of all fossil fuels.

We are ENERGY INDEPENDENT by GENERATING OUR OWN POWER (calculated over the year).

We offer our customers a CO₂-free arrival/departure (EV charging stations, ÖBB train station 100 meters away).

Demonstrating our DEDICATION TO SUSTAINABILITY,
our responsible practices result in an ANNUAL CO₂ SAVINGS of over 140 tons.

Biomass wood chip heating

240 kW boiler: Hot water and heat generation
from wood chips, mostly from our own wood.

Biomass wood chip heating has been providing our hot water since October 2021, heating our rooms in the winter months. With this investment, and by replacing gas with electrical appliances in the kitchen and bakery, we have replaced all fossil with renewable energy.

SOLAR POWER SYSTEM

Our rooftop solar panels provide 120 kWp.

We have been generating renewable electricity from solar energy since 2010.
The solar power system on our roofs was expanded from 40 kWp to 100 kWp in 2022 and to 120 kWp in 2024.

We are ENERGY INDEPENDENT by GENERATING OUR OWN POWER (calculated over the year).

CO₂ SAVINGS from solar power system: 25 tons p.a.

ENERGY STORAGE SYSTEM

Capacity: More than 300 kWh.

The solar power from our PV system covers our electricity needs during the day, and excess power is stored in batteries, for use during peak loads and during the night. The remaining energy is fed into the public network.

The live data of electricity consumption is continuously monitored and optimised via a dashboard. Electricity consumption was drastically reduced by converting all lighting in the hotel to an LED system.

We are ENERGY INDEPENDENT by GENERATING OUR OWN POWER (calculated over the year).

CO₂ SAVINGS from switching to LED systems: 15 tons p.a.

EV CHARGING STATIONS

2 x 11 kW - connections for electric vehicles and for e-bikes.

Our customers can charge their vehicles with electricity from 100% renewable energy (solar power system) at our two EV charging stations for a fee. E-bikes can also be charged.

We offer our customers a CO₂-free arrival/departure (EV charging stations, ÖBB train station 100 meters away).

Water

Economical and sustainable use of water.

Hotel Vösenhuber is 100% equipped with the sustainable ECOTURBINO shower system!

40% water and energy cost savings p.a.

Use of rain roof water.

The sustainable use of rain roof water is achieved through the use of wooden barrels and underground collection basins for irrigation of the gardens.

Food

We cook organically, regionally and always fresh according to the seasons.

Fresh, organic fruit and vegetables from the region form the basis for our dishes with numerous vegetarian options. We use vegetables and herbs from our own garden and bake our own wholemeal bread, sesame and garlic rolls and pretzel sticks in our in-house bakery.

Cooking on a wood stove preserves the originality of the food. Our kitchen ensures freshness through a cook-to-order approach, delivering meals prepared on demand.

We excel in high-quality food recycling, minimizing waste and promoting reusability. Our recycling efforts predominantly include composting, while other waste and packaging materials are separated and disposed of in an environmentally conscious manner.

Employee team

The satisfaction of our customers is our motivation in the team.

At our hotel, our employees have been delivering a high level of customer satisfaction for over 100 years.

We implement practical operational measures to foster long-term service and employee competence, including structured weekend closing days and adaptable staff deployment strategies.

Our workforce boasts an average of 80-100 percent women, leading us to implement flexible and family-friendly working hours, and special consideration for weekends, to better support our employees.

Our most important “project” at the moment is preparing to hand over the business to the 5th generation.
